Listed below are 17 Important Security Tips
- Keep your windows fastened and doors locked at all times
- Install “Charley Bars” on sliding patio doors or balcony doors.
- Hide all spare keys, do not leave them in the door knobs or in plain sight.
- Don’t leave a key under the mat, in a flowerpot, in your mailbox, or in the wheel wells of your car. This is the first place all thieves look.
- Leave your keys with a trusted friend, or with Homeward Bound, a bonded and insured house sitting and pet sitting service.
- Lock your garage, storage buildings, and all gates
- Never leave burglar tools within easy reach. Lock up all of your personal tools while away.
- Install motion detector floodlights outside your home.
- Install timers on your indoor lights.
- Move all valuable items such as stereo, computers, and portable televisions away from windows.
- Never leave a message on an answering machine saying you’re away, even for a few hours.
- Install high security deadbolt locks.
- Leave emergency contact information with a friend or house sitter.
- Don’t redirect your mail or stop your newspaper delivery when you’re on vacation. That tells the wrong people you will be out of town.
- Keep your front and backyards clear of litter and debris.
- Don’t leave the drapes drawn, and blinds closed in every window.
- Leave all valuables locked in a secure safe.
